Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) is a state-owned organization that is responsible for the exploration, extraction, and production of oil and gas resources in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). MOGE was established in 1963 as a division of the Ministry of Mines and later became an independent organization in 1989.
MOGE operates under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and is responsible for managing and maintaining the country's oil and gas resources. Its main functions include exploration, production, transportation, distribution, and sales of natural gas and petroleum products.
Myanmar's oil and gas industry is one of the country's most significant sources of revenue and foreign exchange earnings. MOGE signed various contracts with foreign oil and gas companies for the exploration and production of oil and gas resources.
The country's natural gas reserves are its most significant resource, and its primary export is natural gas. MOGE operates and maintains the pipelines delivering natural gas to neighboring countries such as China and Thailand. Despite this, the industry has been criticized for its lack of transparency and alleged corruption in the past.
